Verification is often the largest share of effort on a chip project. The design verification engineer proves that the RTL does what the specification says, and finds bugs while they are still cheap to fix.
The work covers writing verification plans, building reusable UVM testbenches, creating stimulus and checkers, writing assertions, and driving functional and code coverage to closure. Verification engineers debug failures alongside RTL designers and increasingly use formal methods for control logic and protocols.
A strong verification team is the difference between first-pass silicon and a costly re-spin. Engineers who have closed coverage on production designs and supported tape-out sign-off are in high demand.
